Charlene Hill
Executive Director

Before joining the Donor Awareness Council, Charlene was an independent consultant for the Denver Public Schools' Task Force on Early Education and School Readiness. She developed collaborative relationships and supported the work of a 25-member task force in developing effective policies for universal preschool programs in metropolitan Denver. Charlene also worked as the executive vice-president for the Urban League of Metropolitan Denver, and served for a time as that organization's interim CEO. In this role, Charlene oversaw daily operations and board relations for the $1.7 million organization, emphasizing the need to ‘stay the course' to meet stated goals and objectives.

Charlene's volunteer work is equally impressive with over 16 years experience designing, implementing and managing youth and adult programs. Currently, she serves on the Mayor's Leadership Team for Early Childhood Education and the board of directors, and as board secretary for the Family Resource Center Association.

These diverse skills and experiences, and expansive network within the nonprofit, government, corporate and education market segments will continue to prove beneficial in advancing the work and mission of the Donor Awareness Council.

"My first encounter with transplantation occurred several years ago when my cousin, received a heart transplant," Charlene said. "I will never forget that day when we received the telephone call that he was being placed on the waiting list. It sent our family into a tailspin, researching and collecting data about the transplantation process. The emotional and physical stress was overwhelming for the entire family—but you cannot imagine the joy of knowing that my cousin was going to have a second chance at life."

A native of New Jersey, Charlene holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, tennis, biking and engaging in volunteer activities. A Colorado resident for 24 years, Charlene resides in Aurora with her husband and daughter.

Kay Gilbert
Development Associate

The 2007 New Year began with Kay in the new Development Associate position at Donor Awareness Council. With a strong background in non-profit fundraising and development, her first objective is to become fully knowledgeable of our partner organizations, their roles in organ and tissue donation, and how to best facilitate donation as a community standard within Colorado and Wyoming. Kay's next objective is to create greater funding in support of the Donor Awareness Council mission.

She and her family are from Tennessee originally and have had the fortune to live and travel around the world. "Seeing the lack of resources in most countries makes me greatly aware of a multitude of privileges available in the USA and that many of us take our fabulous health resources for granted. I feel we each have a fundamental responsibility to help others in need which is why I have always strived professionally to make opportunities toward charitable acts known and appreciated. Organ and tissue donation is certainly the ultimate gift of compassion," she said.

Kay brings to Donor Awareness Council her experiences with the American Cancer Society, the Chamber of Commerce, Tulane Cancer Center, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and in corporate marketing and public relations. She is a Business Administration graduate of Regis University. Kay loves to hike the Rockies and to entertain. "Drop in anytime, y'all!"
